DAY TWO IN D.C.

We bought ourselves a bus pass for today and tomorrow for a "get on, get off" double decker tour bus.  The top is open and with all the low hanging trees in the city it got a bit hairy at times.  It was really great in getting us around to the different monuments.

This is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.  There is a statue of him inside the monument but, unfortunately the picture is a bit too dark.  The reason the monument is on an angle is because it was taken from the top of the double decker bus going at a good clip.

From the Jefferson Memorial we then headed to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.  This memorial is quite large as it goes all the way along a walking path with different statues and lovely waterfalls on one side of the walking path and trees and the Potomac River on the other side.

From the FDR Memorial we hopped back on the bus and headed for the Lincoln Memorial.

THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Just down the road from the Lincoln Memorial is the Vietnam Veterans Wall.  They have books along the way that you can look up the name of someone and it will tell you what panel and what line their name is on.

From the Vietnam Veterans Wall we hopped the bus again and went to Arlington Cemetery.  We just had a quick look and then headed to the Pentagon.  They don't actually take you to the Pentagon, they just drive by.  There doesn't appear to be any access.

The bus then took us over to the White House.  You can't get very close as all the roads are closed off around the White House but we managed to get to a point where we could zoom in with the camera and get a decent picture.  They have men posted on the roof with telephoto lens watching everyone.  You can see one guy on the right.

THE WHITE HOUSE

Back on the bus again and we did a lovely tour of Georgetown.  It's a beautiful place with lots of those lovely old homes and beautiful old buildings.  Below are just a few examples.

From Georgetown we headed back to the Holocaust Museum and finshed the tour there we had started yesterday.  This is something everyone should see and remember.

Back again tomorrow for day three.
