THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
We spent the day touring the battlefield of Gettysburg. The battle occured July 1st, 2nd & 3rd of 1863. The weather today has been extremely wet so the pictures may be a bit dark.
We stopped at the entrance of the tourist centre to say hello to a friend.
We started out at the tourist centre and saw an informative movie which explained the battle of Gettysburg and the war's conseqences. We then headed into the Cyclorama, which is a state of the art sound and light show which has a 360 degree painting depicting the Battle of Gettysburg.

We then headed into the Museum of The American Civil War which has a great collection of artifacts of the Gettysburg battle along with short films and interactive exhibits.
Once finished at the Visitors' Centre we headed out to do the Self-Guided Auto Tour. The rain was teaming down but that didn't detour the History Buff at the wheel. We stopped at every sign, monument, statue, cannon, building and scenic view that had anything to do with the battle and took a picture of most of them.

Our last stop was at the Gettysburg National Cemetary where Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address when speaking at the dedication of the cemetary. This speech is considered a masterpiece of the English language, and it transformed Gettysburg from a scene of carnage into a symbol, giving meaning to the sacrifice of the dead and inspiration to the living.
