DAY TWO IN NEW YORK CITY

We left the RV park about 9:30 a.m. this morning and walked down to the PATH station to catch our train.  We headed for the World Trade Centre for our first stop.  This is a very, very busy section of New York.

The new memorial tower still being built

We tried to get into the 911 Memorial but you have to have a special pass to get in so we weren't able to see it.  I think that the public will be able to get in to the memorial next week.

A wall directly across the street from Ground Zero

We also went to visit St. Paul's Church across the street from where the two towers stood.  Miraculously it wasn't damaged when the towers fell.  All the volunteers that were sifting through the rubble used St. Paul's as a haven to rest, eat and sleep so they could go back to carry on their horrendous task.

As you can see, the fence around the World Trade Centre is just across the street.  This is the yard of St. Paul's that has very old tombstones in it.  All the white ribbons have messages on them.

This flag is on the wall inside St. Paul's Church

From the World Trade Centre we headed down through the financial section to Battery Park to check out the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Battery Park

This sphere was in the area of the two towers and was damaged when the towers fell.  It has been brought to Battery Park and now sits as a monument to the fallen towers.  There is also an eternal flame in front of it.

We then walked up through China Town and Little Italy to Katz Deli.  This is the Deli that was used in the movie When Harry Met Sally when Meg Ryan does her famous fake "O" scene.  Cam had seen the restaurant on TV, probably Man vs Food and wanted to try it out.  We split a pastrami sandwich and a side of fries.  I couldn't finish my half there was so much in it but it was fantastic . . . the best pastrami sandwich I have ever eaten.

The busy deli

The highlight of his day!
